Eng. James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa named UNBS executive director

Eng. James Kasigwa Nkamwesiga has been appointed the executive director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).

He occupied the office on May 13, according to a May 14 statement released by Sylvia Kirabo, the principal public relations officer of UNBS.

Before joining UNBS, the engineer served as the director of Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation, and Biosafety at the Ministry of Science Technology, and Innovation.

Eng. James Kasigwa Nkamwesiga is an electrical engineer with an illustrious career, having worked with multinational corporations, private and public sectors, spanning over two decades in leadership and strategic management of expert teams.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, and a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications from London South Bank University, London, United Kingdom.

He also has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI).

Before joining the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Eng. James Kasigwa Nkamwesiga served as the commissioner of ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.

"The National Standards Council, management, and staff of UNBS congratulate and welcome Eng. James N. Kasigwa as its 5th Executive Director and looks forward to his dedicated service and stewardship of the UNBS’ Strategic Agenda during his term in Office," said Kirabo in a statement.

UNBS is a government agency responsible for developing, promoting, and enforcement of national standards to protect the health and safety of the public and the environment against harmful and sub-standard products as well as promoting fair trade practices and competition.
