On March 8, Johnnie Walker joined Uganda’s beauty industry leaders to celebrate a decade of excellence and resilience by makeup artist and businesswoman Umutoni Monalisa, known as Mona Faces.
The exclusive event at Activate Body Therapy in Naguru brought together top socialites, businesswomen, and celebrities who have worked with Mona over the years. It was an evening of reflection, appreciation, and toasts to a woman who has transformed Uganda’s beauty industry.
At just 22, Mona Faces set out to redefine professional makeup artistry in Uganda, a field that was barely recognised. A decade later, she has built an empire, inspiring and mentoring young makeup artists.
An emotional Mona expressed gratitude to her team, friends, and clients:
“I am deeply grateful to my team for their dedication and hard work in shaping Mona Faces. To my friends, your support has been instrumental in helping me reach this milestone. And to my clients, your trust and loyalty are the foundation of Mona Faces. This brand wouldn’t be what it is today without you. And to my mom, who is here tonight, I owe it all to you.”
)
She also praised Johnnie Walker’s She Walks initiative:
“The She Walks programme embodies everything Mona Faces stands for. Thank you, Johnnie Walker, for partnering with me and shining a light on my journey.”
The night featured an immersive Johnnie Walker experience, with an open bar, signature cocktails, whisky tasting, and heartfelt tributes. Johnnie Walker Reserve Brand Ambassador Melanie guided guests on how to savour their favourite whisky.
Catherine Ndungu, Marketing & Innovations Director at Uganda Breweries Ltd (UBL), applauded Mona’s impact on the beauty industry:
“Mona’s journey is a testament to courage, creativity, and resilience. She turned passion into an empire, opening doors for young women. At UBL, we champion diversity and inclusion, ensuring every woman has the chance to walk her own bold path. Tonight, we raise our glasses to Mona and to the boldness that drives us forward.”
The event also marked the first anniversary of She Walks, launched in March 2024 to spotlight women making strides in different fields.
)
“We celebrate not just Mona’s 10-year journey but the resilience of women everywhere,” said Christine Kyokunda, Johnnie Walker Uganda’s Brand Manager. “Mona, you are a true testament to what it means to Keep Walking.”
Mona @ 10 was more than a milestone—it was a celebration of vision, perseverance, and women’s empowerment. With She Walks, Johnnie Walker continues to honour women who dare to dream and forge their own paths.
