Time travel needs to undo social media, says Gen. Tumwine's daughter

The Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF), along with the family of the former army commander Gen. Elly Tumwine, have decried social media users spreading rumours about the death of the Four Star General.

The former minister of Internal Affairs was reportedly airlifted to Nairobi, Kenya, for treatment of what several sources say is cancer.

However, despite these sources stating this, several social media users jumped to the conclusion that he was dead and thereby prematurely announced his death. Thereupon, a torrent of posts and comments on social media poured forth celebrating his alleged passing.

Tumwine’s daughter Cynthia Tumwine, taken aback by this outpouring of hate, took to social media to sluice the post and comments down to streamlets of despair.

“Adversity will teach you so much about human nature. That said I wouldn’t wish the last 24 hours on anyone. Time travel needs to undo social media because it’s currently in the pits. God is faithful regardless though ❤️ We give him praise,” she tweeted.

The UPDF spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, dismissed the rumours, saying that Tumwine is alive and proverbially kicking.

He also piled onto Tumwine’s daughter’s comments by sharing his dismay at different people on social media who continue to wish the General death as he fights to defer his last breath.

If modernity is equivalent to wizardly, then I would rather remain backward. In a society with norms, NO one wishes another dead!!! But some people are going to great lengths to declare the living, and dead! What a shame!!!!!” the UPDF spokesperson tweeted.

Tumwine’s family went on clarify the health and wellbeing of the 68-year-old General.

On behalf of the family of Gen. Tumwine, we hereby dispel rumours circulating on social media in regards to his health and well-being. Thank you for the love and prayers.”

Tumwine has not been seen in public for over a month.
