“Now that elections are done, let’s try to put differences aside and unite to serve our people. Reconciliation of the party supporters and leaders will be key in strengthening the party structures and lay foundation for effective service delivery,” Kyotuheire said.
Now that elections are done, let’s unite to serve our people - NRM
The ruling National Resistance Movement Party’s Deputy National Treasurer Jacqueline Kyatuheire has urged Kisoro leaders to look past the concluded elections in the area in order to unite the people.
She made this plea as she met National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and district leaders at Rushaga Hotel, Bukimbiri County in Kisoro district.
Divisions
The just concluded by-election in Bukimbiri county split the NRM party right down the middle.
The party flagbearer, Eddie Kwizera, was opposed by a section of NRM leaders who supported the independent, but NRM leaning candidate, Asigalio Turyagyenda.
The election thus saw the secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala, ranged against some of the Kisoro district NRM leaders.
However, in the end, Eddi Kwizera was declared winner of the election amidst acrimony from a number of NRM stalwarts.
Mateke advises
The Minister of State for Regional Affairs, Philemon Mateke, however called for calm during and after the just concluded Bukimbiri by-election.
Mateke, who is also the Kisoro district NRM chairperson, slammed party leaders who seek to divide the electorate along sectarian lines.
Spearheading development
Kwizera promised to spearhead development in Bukimbiri county.
“Like I have been doing, I promise to be the face of the NRM development agenda in Bukimbiri county. I thank the party for entrusting me to carry its flag in this election and I call upon all leaders to join me in serving our people,” Kwizera said.
Observers claim that although the party is now rested, several members are still restive.
