This hilarious story comes to us courtesy of our Kenyan neighbors. Residents of Kiangua village in, Meru County, 180 KM north of Nairobi can breathe easier now after learning that the 'lion' they had spotted turned out to be an image on a fancy shopping bag. This comes only three weeks after Ugandans in Kagadi killed an actual lion that was attacking actual villagers and ate it.

To be frank, looking at how the picture peeped from behind a hedge, one would be forgiven to misconstrue it to be an actual animal out for a hunt. And if you are wondering how everyone was fooled by a mere inanimate picture on a paper bag, remember, no one stood still long enough to realize that the thing was not moving. Everyone who saw the picture peeping from that hedge just took off as fast as possible.

The villagers in Mutiribu village thought 'the big cat' was hiding in a strategic spot in the village waiting for the opportune moment to attack residents which gave the inhabitants a scare as they sought help to prevent a possible attack.

“There was drama in Meru County today. Villagers in the sleepy Mutiribu hamlet that is about two kilometres from Mt Kenya forest thought there was a lion hiding in a hedge. The residents reported the matter to the assistant chief, who informed the chief.

"The administrators in turn called the nearest Kenya Wildlife Service to come and handle the animal before it could cause harm to humans and livestock,” read a Facebook post by a user identified as Eric Kathenya.

Later, KWS rangers were on location to capture the animal, only to discover it was an image on a Carrefour shopping bag. Everyone had a hearty laugh and those who had left the village for their own safety were called back. Of course, the men were slightly embarrassed.

Of course some uncouth people are having crazy laughs on Twitter.
