In North Karamoja, Major General Don William Nabasa, the commander of Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces' 3 Division, has called on the Jie and Dodoth communities from Kotido and Kaabong districts, respectively, to form a peaceful alliance aimed at ending cattle theft and easing tensions in the area.

Despite challenges, Gen. Nabasa noted a relative peace in the region, thanks in part to adherence to the Presidential Amnesty window.

During a security community meeting in Moruitit village, Kaabong district, Gen. Nabasa highlighted the importance of brotherhood and cooperation to tackle the ongoing issues of cattle theft and mutual accusations between the communities.

He addressed the influence of Turkana pastoralists and emphasized collaboration with the UPDF's 405 Brigade to maintain peace, particularly along the Uganda-Kenya border.

The meeting also saw contributions from local leaders and officials, including calls for the surrender of illegal firearms and plans to address water scarcity by drilling boreholes along border areas.
