King Saha absent from UMA presidential candidates debate
Singer and UMA presidential candidate Manisul Ssemanda did not show up for the debate which happened yesterday at the Next Media premises. Saha remains committed to boycotting the elections until his conditions are met.
All efforts to get in touch with Saha were in vain as he ignored calls and messages alike. It was rumoured that he was performing at a wedding ceremony.
“Saha is one of the top contenders in this upcoming election and set a bad precedent for not showing up. Communication is key in our line of business,” said Bina Baibe, the moderator of the debate.
King Saha's major concern is vote rigging due to holding vote casting online and the obscurity surrounding the voters' register.
“COVID-19 ended. We can use a ballot. Why not? I will tell my people to boycott the elections if they can’t use the ballot,” he said in an interview.
However, the association's Electoral Commission Committee took Saha's complaints under consideration and postponed the elections for two weeks. The association explained that this will give them time to educate involved parties on the whole process and rectify misunderstandings.
Apart from his disagreements, Saha said that he is ready to cooperate with the ruling government for the benefit of musicians. Earlier in the campaign period, he explained that political differences would not interfere with executing his duties and obligations.
"Do not be threatened by people telling you that if you vote King Saha the government will not help you. We are organized and have proper structures so the government will work with us," he said.
King Saha is a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
