Although he has been complaining about the voting process, the commission dismissed his allegations as paranoia and maintained that voting is to be done the digital way.
Road to UMA elections 2022: Saha takes UMA to court
Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) Presidential candidate Manisul Ssemanda, popularly known as King Saha, has taken his grievances with the association's electoral commission to the courts of law.
In response, Saha has approached lawyers of Lukwago & Co. Advocates to plead his case and have his opinion taken seriously. Saha wants the forthcoming elections to be halted according to the statement made by the lawyers.
Grievances
The association has failed to avail the presidential candidates with a voters’ register.
The association is yet to display and avail the voters’ register to all candidates.
Holding off of online voting because the process is susceptible to rigging yet it is unnecessary.
Fellow presidential candidate, Lord Bitem, has also joined Saha against voting malpractice. Bitem has warned the electoral commission saying he will not stand for rigging and bribery.
Bitem, real name Mutebi Ramathan, also made a dig at the association for failing to help artists when they got government funds.
Despite these complaints, the commission has stuck to its guns on voting by SMS.
The voting process
UMA revealed that each member is only allowed one vote using only one mobile phone number that was registered.
All voters must be registered members of the Uganda musicians association.
"We shall use SMS to vote. We want every UMA member to participate as some of the members don’t have smartphones," a UMA representative revealed.
The code used in casting a vote is *260#
If rejected, try another number, it may be the one that was uploaded to the voting register.
All unopposed positions are not included.
You must be registered under one of the three regions, Western, Eastern, or Northern, because regional positions are only visible to those who are registered.
Those registered under central cannot see the other regions.
The current voting test is not valid and will be wiped just before the election date.
