However, this opening is not as good as the opening of Us, Peele’s last movie, which debuted to $71 million on the weekend it opened.
Daniel Kaluuya's movie 'Nope' makes UGX 168 billion in just two days
Jordan Peele’s new film Nope, which stars British-Ugandan actor Daniel Kaluuya, has opened strongly over the weekend making $44, 000 million (about UGX 168,228,176,908.00).
Us was a March 2019 follow-up to Peele’s blockbusting Get Out, and grossed nearly the same amount, with over $175 million in domestic takings alone.
Nope’s strong showing at the box office means Peele’s three original films opened to a combined $150 million. This puts him head and broad shoulders above his filmmaker colleagues.
The making of a hit
"Nope" cost $68 million, this is a lot more than what was used for his first movie "Get Out" which had a $4.5 million budget and his second movie "Us" with its $20 million budget.
"Get Out" and "Us" were hugely successful in theaters, with each collecting $255 million at the global box office.
Nope’s plot
"Nope" reunites Peele with "Get Out" star Kaluuya. Then there’s also Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun in co-starring roles.
The movie’s story revolves around the tale of siblings who live on a gulch (a narrow and steep-sided ravine marking the course of a fast stream) in California.
The two siblings attempt to uncover video evidence of an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO), before all hell breaks loose.
"Nope" scored an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave the film a "B" grade, the same CinemaScore as "Us.
"Nope" is surely a powerful movie for an original, R-rated horror film. It also continues the rise of Kaluuya as a winning brand in Hollywood as he takes his place amongst A-listers in Tinseltown.
