The competition was launched early last year in October with an aim and goal of looking for rising film makers in the Sub Saharan regions.
Loukman Ali part of 'African Folktales Reimagined' winners
The Girl in the Yellow Jumper the movie director is on cloud 9 after being named part of the winners of the African Folktales Reimagined, a competition that was put on for short movie directors.

African Folktales Reimagined competitions were organized and financed by movie streaming platform Netflix together with UNESCO. At the end of the competition, winners are awarded a sum of US$25,000 accompanied by a $75,000 production budget to finance their short films making.
While creating these short films, winners have to make use of a local production house and will be guided by Netflix through its appointed supervising producer and prominent movie makers from all over Africa.
These short films that will be created from these different directors will be premiering on Netflix as a section of ‘An Anthology of African Folktales’ this year.
Winners were announced early this week and the excited Loukman to his social media too and shared the winners artwork that included,

Korede Azeez [Nigeria] for ‘Adieu’
Mohamed Echkouna [Mauritania] for ‘The Enmity’
DjinnWalter Mzengi [Tanzania] for ‘Katope’
Gcobisa Yako [South Africa] for ‘Uma’Mlambo’
Salut Voline Ogutu [Kenya] for ‘Anyango and the Ogre’
The 32 year old Loukman Ali is a Ugandan cinematographer, Graphic Designer, screenwriter, film director and producer. His directorial debut was Monday which was followed up by The Bad Mexican released in 2017.
Top of his movie game are other movies like ‘The Blind date’ and ‘Sixteen Rounds’. His movie “The Girl in the Yellow Jumper'' was the first Ugandan movie to stream and premiere on Netflix.
