Video: There is NO fairness, refs choose sides – Wokorach pours heart over World Challenger Series exit

Uganda Rugby Sevens captain Michael Wokorach has opened up on frustrations faced by the team at the just concluded World Challenger Series in Chile.

The Sevens came close to achieving the dream qualification to the lucrative HBSC series only to be knocked out by Germany thanks to very scandalous officiation in favour of the Europeans in the second round.

The referee made very controversial calls that enabled Germany muscled their way from a 14-00 lead to a 14-17 win over Uganda that seemed to have progressed.

A section of frustrated fans have since launched an online petition urging World Rugby to review the match.

“The boys from Uganda, reigning Africa Champions sacrificed a lot in pursuit of an HSBC series qualification and deserve to know if that is the standard of officiation acceptable at this level of rugby.

The days of patting on the back and saying better luck next time should be put behind us. All actions should have consequences, so a review should be done and if the officials are wrong let them be exposed for disgracing the sport”, part of the petition reads.

In a video recorded on the team bus, Wokorach delves into the topic narrating the sympathy the Tongans felt for Ugandans following the heartbreaking exit that had a significant emotional toll on the Cranes as some players broke down on the pitch.

Uganda faced Tonga in the play-offs and the team too, shared similar sentiments over braced jury.

“We had to show the world that we can still play even when we were broken. The Tongans told us they knew we won the game. There is no fairness, the integrity of the sport has been killed…That’s why we went to the middle of the pitch, made a circle and said a prayer…”, he said.
