Photos: Uganda Rugby Sevens return from international duty ahead of World Cup
Uganda Rugby Sevens have returned home after a brilliant performance in international rugby competitions.
The African champions were one of the major highlights at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games with a number of stellar performances.
In a stand out performance at the Commonwealth Games group stage, Uganda defied the odds against world champions Australia and fought for a hard-earned 12-12 draw. The performance earned the team a standing ovation and cult following.
However, the team missed out on the medal bracket and settled for the play-offs.
After Birmingham duty, the Rugby Sevens travelled to South American nation Tonga for the World Challenger Series, a qualification tournament for the lucrative HBSC series.
Uganda’s dream of a core team status was shattered thanks to controversial calls by the referee which knocked Uganda out against Germany.
The team will now turn focus to the Rugby Sevens World Cup, Cape Town, South Africa due September 9-11, 2022.
