Scandalous officiation knocks out Uganda in Chile, fans petition World Rugby as star player contemplates retirement

Uganda Rugby Sevens World Challenger Series tournament came crushing in a very controversial fashion.

Timothy Kisiga described the referee's calls as unacceptable

The African champions led the first half 14-0 against Germany with tries by Ian Munyani and Philip Wokorach and seemed destined to achieve the qualification to the prestigious HBSC series.

However, in the second half, Germany pulled off a controversial 14-17 win over Uganda, thanks to scandalous officiation by the referee. The result ended Uganda’s World Series core status dream with heartbroken players visibly shedding tears at the Estadio Santa Laura, Santiago-Chile.

Now, in response to the controversy, fans have started an online petition with the hope that World Rugby could review the officiation. By the time of this writing, 724 people had signed the petition.

“The boys from Uganda, reigning Africa Champions sacrificed a lot in pursuit of an HSBC series qualification and deserve to know if that is the standard of officiation acceptable at this level of rugby.

The days of patting on the back and saying better luck next time should be put behind us. All actions should have consequences, so a review should be done and if the officials are wrong let them be exposed for disgracing the sport”, part of the petition reads.

Now, a star player and influential member on the team, Adrian Kasito hinted at retirement!

"Thank you @UgandaRugby for all the support .. to @WorldRugby I’m out of words .. clearly we can never win .. I guess I should focus on Data Science, maybe rugby wasn’t our calling … well played Uganda 7s", he tweeted.

Teammate Timothy Kisiga described the referee calls as 'unacceptable'.
