Kenya 27- Uganda 14: Uganda fall short in Commonwealth Games opener
Kenya Rugby Sevens avenged their loss to Uganda in the Africa Cup with a victory in the opening match of the Commonwealth Games opener.
In the first half, Kenya’s Johnstone Olindi, Herman Humwa and Billy Odhiambo alongside Olindi’s sole conversion gave Shujaa a 17-0 lead.
Uganda responded with Timothy Kasiga’s converted try to post 17-7 score at the break.
Philip Wokorach would then score and convert his own try after the restart for a 17-14 score before Olindi and Kevin Wekesa landed second half tries to give Shujaa the result.
Uganda Rugby Sevens will now hope to respond fast in the second group D match against Australia at 9:20pm (EAT).
In the other group D clash, Kenya will take on Jamaica, also tonight.
Uganda will wind up their Pool D fixtures with a clash against Jamaica at 12.50pm (EAT) on Saturday 30 July.
The winners from the group stage will progress to the quarterfinals. The major goal is to reach the semi-finals for a chance at a medal.
