Lawyer calls Muhoozi project a dangerous circus, NRM maintains disregard

The lawyer was appearing on a local televised show on Tuesday when he said that his first impression of the Muhoozi project was shattered after the faces behind it were revealed.

“Initially, the impression I had was serious people are pushing the Muhoozi Project, but the majority of the faces that have come now are not those you would trust with your will at your death bed,” he said.

He said, however, that despite the slippery coalition that is the Muhoozi project, the First son still holds a bigger advantage and enjoys better privileges compared to his budding nemesis, Robert Kyagulanyi.

That these have made him a deeply-rooted candidate than the seedling National Unity Platform (NUP) President Kyagulanyi.

“Given the advantage he has and enjoys, Muhoozi and Kyagulanyi can’t be at the same level. I think Muhoozi has overtaken Kyagulanyi in terms of reach,” he said.

Muhoozi has teased the public with indications that he wants to go for the big seat with his social media comments. His agenda has attracted the formation of a group to push him.

The informal team, Team Chairman, is allegedly run by his uncle Micheal Nuwagira. Other core allies of the agenda include seasoned journalist Andrew Mwenda and city events promoter Balaam Barugahara.

Meanwhile, in the National Resistance Movement camp, Major General Kahinda Otafiire has said that President Museveni is their choice flag bearer.

That for people like him who are grounded in the party, Museveni is their choice and only they have the authority to make him lose his footing.

“It is up to the NRM to say to Museveni, we now need another person, step aside,” he said.

He said that Muhoozi's recent comments about the party are merely his opinions and "his business".

“That is his business, he is entitled to his opinion. For us who are rational and understand him (Museveni) have said we still want him in charge,” Otafiire vowed.

The Internal Affairs Minister denied allegations that Museveni has marked the leadership position until his last breath.

“How do you ring-fence a position that you compete for? Are we fools? Us who give him votes?” he posed.

With the elections three years away, the question of whether Muhoozi will stand for presidency grows more potent by the day.
