Inside FDC leadership retreat, new plan for 2026

The party just recently closed a three days National Executive Committee (NEC) leadership retreat at the Country Lake Resort in Garuga, Wakiso District.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat urged members to be strongholds in building a resilient and proactive party that will handle state power and country leadership.

Here are some of the highlights of the retreat

The party sought to refresh NEC members and those in "hibernation" on conflict management and resolution within the party.

Structure: Reflection and analysis of the party's current political situation and climate and aligning it with the National Council resolution and synergies to make them a formidable contender in 2026.

Equiping: Enhancement of the NEC members in their capacities to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

Improved work environment: Training of NEC members on gender mainstreaming in the party leadership, balancing party work and personal responsibilities, leadership ethics, personal conduct, and communication skills.

Going digital: They addressed social media in effective communication

Party resources: Aggressive and effective mobilisation strategy, financial mobilisation and fundraising plans, among other issues.

The NEC retreat has also recommended various strategic interventions to strengthen the Party, make it a Party of Choice and be able to take over leadership of the country.

The retreat comes on the backdrop of the National Council meeting where the party launched its third five-year (2022-2027) FDC strategic plan.

The plan

The document outlines the guiding principles that the party will be using going forward.

It includes 10 strategic objectives including: building, consolidating and expanding FDC’s popular support base, solidarity and brotherhood, building a formidable electoral infrastructure to win and defend victories, building a strong financial resource reserve and ensuring accountability of all elected leaders both party and government.

Rebuilding and restructuring the party secretariat
Building, strengthening and securing party leaders, members and party assets
Building a strong and effective communication and media network
Establishing policies, best practices for land use and environmental conservation.

Amuriat emphasised on building partnerships with other democracy-seeking forces and organisations is also paramount. That, coupled with monitoring and evaluating this strategic plan, the presidential seat is the limit.
