Gen Saleh pulls out of Muhoozi, Museveni leadership talks

Saleh was attending the NRM end of year party on Tuesday at the Nakaseke District Local Government where several people that have contributed to the development of the district were honoured.

He said that party members should respect the Central Executive Committee (CEC) which has the authority to choose top party leadership. He asked them to discard opinions of noise makers.

“When I see the noise around the MK and President Museveni, it’s like you have passed a vote of no confidence in the NRM party Central Executive Committee. Don’t drag yourself into such things because it is the duty of CEC and not any other person," he told Nakaseke District leaders.

The comments were in response to the petition made by Nakaseke District LC5 Chairperson, Ignatious Kiwanuka Koomu.

In the petition, Koomu asked for guidance on the threatening debate over who will be the presidential candidate come 2026. He said that within his District Council, members are wearing apparel claiming General Muhoozi is the candidate.

"We are becoming confused as NRM party members when we see the party members divided at this time. Some are for Muhoozi Kainerugaba while some members support his father. We need guidance on this matter. Some of us still believe that President Museveni is our candidate but we are countering other forces within the NRM party," Koomu said.

His remarks come days after Muhoozi tweeted on December 5 that he was to engage Saleh in a debate at the latter's home. He promised to brief his followers on the visit.

Nonetheless, according to NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, the Central Executive Committee already endorsed President Museveni back in 2019 to run in 2021, 2026 and beyond.
