In an official statement released on Tuesday, March 12, the UNRA outlined the project's scope, emphasizing the resurfacing of the main carriageway and the installation of essential road safety features.

"Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) in collaboration with Uganda Traffic Police and Stirling Civil Engineering Limited wishes to inform all road users about upcoming maintenance activities along the Kireka—Namugongo road (8km), commencing on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, and expected to be complete by the end of May 2024. The physical works will entail resurfacing of the main carriageway and installation of road safety facilities," the statement elucidated.

To facilitate these maintenance works, traffic will be constrained to a single lane at various phases of the project, allowing the other lane to be refurbished efficiently.

The UNRA further highlighted that certain segments of the road would be temporarily closed during asphalt concrete overlay operations. During these periods, traffic will be rerouted through designated alternative paths to minimize inconvenience.

The statement assures that "both the Traffic Police and the Contractor's safety team will be present on-site to assist road users accordingly," ensuring smooth navigation around the construction zones.

This maintenance endeavor aims to significantly enhance the road's surface quality and safety features, promising improved satisfaction and comfort for all who traverse this vital link.
