Mugerwa fears if left unchallenged, the platform will completely destroy the creative industry in the country.

She promised to use her new position as the Vice Chairwoman board of the Uganda National Culture Centre to attract Ugandans to the older forms of entertainment including theater.

Mugerwa is serving on the board along with other artists including Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone, and Lillian Mbabazi among others.

Now that we are on this board, we are going to bring about change,” she said.

TikTok is taking over the world, and because of it, we are no longer promoting culture. We as creatives used to be the most effective when it came to communication.

But it is sad that people now listen to TikTok more than they listen to wise people such as Mr (Alex) Mukulu. These are people we need to listen to more while they are still will use.

We assure you that you will see some change starting with us.

Mugerwa was speaking at the National Theater where celebrated actor Alex Mukulu made his long-awaited comeback after 17 years.

Buganda Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga, while speaking as chief guest at the event, disagreed with Mrs Mugerwa about Tiktok threatening the creative industry.

Mayiga stated that as long as Uganda’s best artists do not relent in putting out top-quality work, Ugandans will always be there to support them.
