However, the Detergent star has washed her hands of them saying they exploit Ugandan musicians to push their own brands but never promote Ugandans in their country.
“If you are lucky, you will shoot a video but usually, they stop on audio. They are users who take advantage of us. They never mention a Ugandan musician in their country even when you work with them,” she said.
Who is Winnie Nwagi?
You may know the answer to this question, but we’ll refresh your memory nonetheless.
According to the Swangz website, Winnie Nwagi was born on July 20th 1989 to Mr. and Mrs. Kabiito.
She always had a passion for music, as she started singing at school where she did music, dance and drama.
Raised by a single father, Winnie dropped out of school and got kicked out of her Father’s home as a teenager and has since hustled between recording studios chasing her dream.
After many years of uncertainty, luck struck when she signed up for a talent search reality TV show where she emerged second runner-up.
It’s from this competition that she was spotted and signed to Swangz Avenue, a premier record label in Kampala.
After a single year in the music industry, Winnie won numerous awards including Song of the year and breakout artist.
She is one of the most followed musicians on social media and most in demand artist not just in Uganda but in neighboring countries.
