‘I want to challenge myself to be better,’ Sheebah on taking concert to Serena

Sheebah Karungi says she put her concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel because she wants to test new waters.

"I want to challenge myself to be better. If you want to see the version of you you've never seen, you've to challenge yourself. If you want to get something you've never gotten, you do something you've never done,” said Karungi, who added that she is morphing into a new version of herself.

"I want to challenge myself because I have a show in my mind that I know I can do, but I have never done... I want a closed space that will keep the sound waves inside... I want to see what I can do in a closed space like Serena, because all my ideas can't be perfectly executed in an open space… The way a snake sheds its skin, I'm also shedding off the Old Sheebah. Next month I'll be 33. I started singing at 15.”

Her concert will be on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Musicians rarely hold events at Serena Hotel because it attracts a relatively higher price compared to outdoor events around Kampala.

Juliana Kanyomozi recently held a highly-attended concert there despite having been inactive on the concert scene for eight years.

For most of her previous shows, Sheebah Karungi has been under the management of Jeff Kiwanuka, alias Jeff Kiwa, but they ended their contract last year after working togehter for nine years.

"My journey and that man was good,... and it's just that we refuse to acknowledge, but everyone has so much they can do for you, and it ends and you move on," said Karungi of the Team No Sleep (TNS) founder.

"Jeff took me where he took me, the nine years we worked together, and I also took him where I could... but this is the time for me to move without him."

Information that Karungi, the self-proclaimed Queen Karma – ended her working relationship with Kiwanuka, known in the music industry as Jeff Kiwa, went public in December 2021.
