Authorities speak out as CID takes over Weasel-Teta case

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has picked interest in the saga of singer Douglas Mayanja, aka Weasel Manizo, who assaulted his girlfriend, Sandra Teta, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesman Luke Owoyesigire said.

According to Owoyesigire, the police had been looking for Teta but hadn't found her when the CID took over the case.

During an afternoon phone call on Thursday, August 4, 2022, Owoyesigire said he couldn't confirm how the CID was progressing because the Directorate is superior to the one he has been assigned to.

Authorities recommended contacting Police spokesman Fred Enanga for comment as CID currently has no spokesperson. But he didn't pick up our repeated calls.

In a separate interview, the office-in-charge of Makindye police Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anxious Angaruraho said that he hadn't received any complaint against Weasel.

He said he learnt about the saga from social media, which prompted him to visit the singer's home but only found two girls who said Weasel wasn't home.

"I don't know anything about Weasel's case. I have not got any report," he said.

"I heard about the issue through social media and as the area O.C I found it imperative to go found out what transpired."

According to Angaruraho, the girls told him that Teta, who also wasn't home, had been attacked by thugs.

He also revealed that ever since he was posted in the area he has not received any complaint against Weasel despite rumours that he's a violent person in the area.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joseph Rutabana, told the media that the Commission had picked interest in the matter.

We are closely following up the case! Her parents are here, they have been meeting and talking with her, and we have also seen her and talked to her. That's all I can tell you for the moment,” Rutabana was quoted as saying by The New Times, Rwanda.

In its 2021 Annual Crime Report released in May of this year, police revealed that 17,533 cases of domestic violence had been reported compared to 17,664 cases recorded in 2020.
