Arua's king of comedy is set to take Kampala by storm

A great comedian knows how to put ‘behinds’ in seats and never leave them behind when it comes to taking them along for a laugh-filled ride.

Sundiata is ready for the big leagues

There are a few Ugandan comedians who come to mind in this regard, Sundiata is surely one of them.

As a standup comedian, his turbo-charged energy infectiously rubs off on all who watch him perform.

His singular ability to wield the microphone like a baton handed down to him by a colorful past is inimitable, impressive.

Still, it has been a long and winding road to the top of his game.

Sundiata, real name Ismail Mansur, is a Graduate of Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management from Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

Blessed with a boyish charm, he was born in Arua town, Kirabu, whereupon he named himself the ‘mayor of Kirabu’ in the same manner Will Smith proclaimed himself the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

He completed his primary education from Arua Public Primary School. Then he went on to enroll for Ordinary Level at St. Joseph’s college Ombaci in Arua.

After completing his O-Levels, he moved to Kampala for Advanced Level education at Mbogo Mixed SS before taking a degree at MUBS.

Always known as the funny guy, he got a chance to show off his comedic skills in December 2018, when he debuted his comedic journey with a show in Arua called, 'The Mayor of Kirabu'.

It was such an unprecedented success that he holds the same show every year in Arua on Boxing Day.

Ever since he hit the ground running in 2018, he has featured on a number of comedy stages such as Patrick Salvado's Just Comedy, Alex Muhangi's Comedy Store, Daniel Omara's Another Comedy Club, Joshua Okello Okello's Comedy Black Friday, Laugh with Owakabi in Gulu, Stress Clinic in Kampala and the Moroto Comedy showcase.

In 2021, Sundiata won the ADA Awards Best Standup Comedian of the year Award. He was also nominated in the 2022 maiden edition of The Nile Media Award, an event that was later called off due to technical glitches.

More recently, he scorched the audience with a ‘fire’ performance at The Salvado Show on DSTV's Pearl Magic.

Now, he is ready for his own comedy show.

The pathbreaking show is dubbed the “The Sundiata Comedy Show” and will be happening on July 3rd.

“The show will deliver rib cracking performances from a number of some of the finest{comedians] in town doing clean and English comedy, all this shall be happening at the posh ambiance of Himalayan Restaurant and Bar located at Alameda Mall in Mpererwe,” he promises.

Sundiata has come a long way, yet he is only 27 years of age and driven by a particular inspiration that comes from within.

The desire to bring pride to West Nile using comedy is my main source of inspiration, West Nile entertainers have been limited to being entertainers within the boundaries of West Nile, this is the barrier I want to break, my hustle is to gain national recognition for talent coming from West Nile,” he says, while smiling cheekily beneath his signature helmet of dreadlocked hair.

If there is one comedian who can pull this off, it is Sundiata.

His comedy rises above region and religion to bring various types of people together to ensure they co-exist in Sundiata’s unique comedy world.
