As curtains fell on the Africa Senior Athletics Championships on Sunday in Mauritius, team Uganda only had a single medal, thanks to Racheal Zena Chebet.

Despite the cold and rainy conditions at the Cote d’Or National Complex in Saint Pierre she finished second in a time of 32 minutes and 17.66 seconds after 25 laps.
Her efforts, saved team Uganda from returning home fruitless and catapulted the country to the third from bottom in the medal standings.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s neighbour Kenya dominated affairs from short and long-distance races accumulating 23 medals in the 5-day Championship.
Several of Uganda’s top athletes opted out of the tournament ahead of the World Athletics and Commonwealth Games kicking off next month.
