As curtains fell on the Africa Senior Athletics Championships on Sunday in Mauritius, team Uganda only had a single medal, thanks to Racheal Zena Chebet.

Chebet won Uganda’s only medal at the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Mauritius. She raced to second place in the women’s 10,000m securing Uganda’s only podium finish at the 5-day tournament.

Despite the cold and rainy conditions at the Cote d’Or National Complex in Saint Pierre she finished second in a time of 32 minutes and 17.66 seconds after 25 laps.

Her efforts, saved team Uganda from returning home fruitless and catapulted the country to the third from bottom in the medal standings.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s neighbour Kenya dominated affairs from short and long-distance races accumulating 23 medals in the 5-day Championship.
