Museveni hypes up Nakivubo Stadium epic revamp by young tycoon Ham

President Yoweri Museveni and business dynamo Hamis Kiggundu, aka Ham, were all smiles at the unveiling of the revamped Nakivubo Stadium on Thursday, April 25.

President Yoweri Museveni and business dynamo Hamis Kiggundu, aka Ham, were all smiles at the unveiling of the revamped Nakivubo Stadium

The multi-purpose arena now boasts a state-of-the-art design thanks to Ham’s innovation and investment.

At the event, Museveni was quick to praise Ham Kiggundu for his forward-thinking approach.

“Kiggundu is a young man who emerged as the NRM came to power, and he truly embodies the NRM spirit through his innovation and drive for prosperity in Uganda,” Museveni said, acknowledging Ham's role in breathing new life into the stadium.

Museveni shared his enthusiasm for Ham's 'can-do' attitude.

“I thank Kiggundu because he has shown that 'yes we can' attitude not only here but in other projects as well," he said.

"He came up with a solid plan, and being a bush warfighter, I got it right away. We don’t waste time; a slow decision can be fatal.”

The President explained the business deal that rejuvenated Nakivubo Stadium.

“He proposed a clear deal: lease a government asset to him, he revamps it with private funds and recoups his investment through revenue and nearby businesses for 49 years," he said.

"Simple and effective. If he fails, we boot him; if he succeeds, he profits, and Uganda gets a stellar stadium regardless of who runs it.”

Museveni also highlighted the need for private sector heroes like Ham to foster national development, confirming that the upgraded facilities meet international standards required for major sports events.

Peter Ogwang, Minister of State for Sports, chimed in with praise for Ham’s venture into sports development and noted the government's substantial investment in sports infrastructure.

He also hinted at future projects, including renovations at Namboole Stadium and new developments in Hoima and Lira.
