Ham shares latest Nakivubo Stadium construction works

Businessman Hamis Kiggundu better known as Ham has shared a series of images of the current state of the construction works of War Memorial Stadium, Nakivubo.

Ham has been under intense criticism over the delayed construction works of the stadium. The stadium has been closed to the public since 2015 owing to the construction works overseen by Ham.

Some critics claim the construction works have alienated the stadium to a much smaller venue than anticipated.

However, Ham waxing lyrical, preaches patriotism in his latest update about the stadium redevelopment works.

“Completion of Nakivubo Stadium with God's blessings as a constant factor will stand as a clear illustration to all my fellow countrymen and women that yes we can develop Uganda locally collectively and proudly as Ugandans. Let’s drop the negativity and focus on substance”, he tweeted.

In October last year, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago accused Ham of turning the facility into a private commercial complex and alienating the stadium to a tennis court.

“Through sheer artifice, Ham Kiggundu alienated a National facility of monumental value at zero cost, and turned it into a private commercial complex. He now has no qualms unveiling a playground of tennis court size seeking for acclaim as a philanthropist!! Banana Republic indeed!”.

Ham, however noted attributed the delay due to COVID-19.

"COVID-19 was also a major setback, delaying us by almost three years, denting our cash flow, in addition to raising the cost of production", he stated last year.

“Because of the rise in the cost of production, for a stadium I estimated to spend around 50 million dollars, I could end up spending around 150 million because of the price increase of construction material.”
