Eliud Kipchoge has delivered a marathon masterpiece breaking his own world record in Berlin.

The double Olympic champion broke his own world record in a time of two hours, one minute and nine seconds. The result means he shattered his own world leading time by 30 seconds that he set four years ago.

He also now, has won 15 of his 17 career marathons, including 10 major titles and two Olympic gold medals.

In a class of his own, Kipchoge dominated the track in Berlin setting a fast pace race from the start. He covered the first 10Km in just 28 minutes 23 seconds and at the 15Km distance, he had hit 42 minutes and 32 seconds.

The defending champion, Guye Adola, and his Ethiopian compatriot Andamlak Belihu managed to keep pace before falling away in the second half of the race.

Kipchoge finished almost five minutes ahead of his Kenyan compatriot, Mark Korir, who came second posting 2 hours 5minutes 58 seconds. Ethiopia’s Tadu Abate came through to finish third in 2 hours 6 minutes and 28 seconds.
