Quest for GOLD:Uganda to field strong World Cross Country Championships team

Uganda is fielding a strong assemble of top athletics stars for the 2023 World Cross Country Championships.

The star-studded team will compete ahead of the 2023 World Cross Country Championships slated for February 2023 in Australia.

Delayed due to COVID from 2021 to 2022 and now 2023, the World Cross Country Championships will be held Bathurst, Australia on Saturday 18 February 2023, making the event’s first time in Oceania since 1988.

At least 26 athletes comprising of male and females in the senior and junior categories are holding a training camp in the high-altitude district of Kapchorwa in Eastern Uganda.

Team Uganda is expected to field Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo, Samuel Kibet, Isaac Kibet, Martin Kiprotich on the men’s senior team while in the senior women’s category: Stella Chesang, Mercyline Chelangat, Rispa Cherop, Doreen Chesang and Annet Chelangat.

In the junior category, 19-year-old long Prisca Chesang who beat two world champions to win gold at the San Silvestre Vallecana 10Km race in Madrid, will be expected to be a strong contender.

Uganda Athletics team is also fielding a relay team of experienced athletes for the championships.
