The East Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, Oscar Gregg Ageca confirmed the incident that transpired on Sunday night, saying that the deceased has been identified as Dan Esipan, the fuel station manager, and one of the suspects, Lawrence Otingole, a soldier of the 41st Battalion in Moroto.

Police in Bukedea district in Teso sub-region have arrested a soldier belonging to the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and are pursuing more suspected armed thieves following raid of Bukedea Petro City fuel station that left one person dead and two fighting for their lives.

According to reports, the robbers raided the station and overpowered the pump attendant and security guard who were the only people in the sleeping neighbourhood at 9:00 pm. The assailants disarmed the guard and used his gun to shoot Esipan and the others, before running off with the victims' belongings.
“The territorial police in Bukedea District registered a case of aggravated robbery of mobile phones, money and murder at Bukedea petro city petrol filling station where three people were shot at around 9pm vide Case Ref. 34/25/9/2022 of Bukedea Central Police station,” Ageca said.
They then abandoned the gun at the crime scene, where police first repondents found it when they rushed to take the victims to Bukedea Health Centre for first treatment. However, Esipan succumbed to his injuries as the three were being transferred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
"We immediately responded to the incident, rushed the three victims to Bukedea health center for first aid before they were later referred to Mbale regional referral Hospital for better medication, unfortunately Dan, the manager of the petrol station died on the way to the hospital," he said.
The fuel station has since been closed off to public access for investigations.
