An Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) survived an attack with deadly intent by assailants who invaded his residence and successfully made it into the interior of his home located in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district.

Police and other security agencies are trying to establish why this attack was carried out on such a ranking officer. Uganda now has 13 officers at the rank of AIGP, 5 were only promoted recently. The survivor of Friday's attack is one of 8 long-serving AIGPs.

The AIGP may have lost his life if it was not for the guard who was stationed inside the compound who was able to repulse the home invaders. .

The guard manning the inner ring of the AIGP’s home repulsed the attackers," the source said. "Before infiltrating into the AIGP’s home, the thugs first scaled over the neighbours' homes. Kira and Kasangati police patrols were alerted and they rushed to reinforce the AIGP's security detail.”

However, Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said he was not aware of the attack on AIGP’s home while Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said he was not briefed on the attack.

Kira Municipality and its environs have recently been mired in such attacks. Areas such as Namugongo, Naalya, Kiwatule, Kira, Buwate, Najjera, Bweyogerere and Kasangati being the worse hit by these attacks.

AIGP Felix Kaweesi was assassinated on March 17, 2017, but his death has become as a cold case as no conclusive evidence has been able to pin any offenders. However, numerous suspects have been arrested, but the state has never produced the inculpatory evidence necessary for conviction.
