On Wednesday, armed security personnel dressed in plainclothes searched the offices of NEED located at Luthuli Avenue in Bugolobi and briefly detained Kabuleta’s workmates as they were quizzed regarding the whereabouts of their principal.
Police hunt for Kabuleta, raid his offices
Security agencies are hunting for former presidential candidate and the leader of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), pastor Joseph Kabuleta, a day after they raided his offices.
Then, on Thursday, security personnel returned to the NEED offices but did not enter. Moses Matovu, the spokesperson of NEED, said his staff also refused to enter their offices because they believed that the security personnel could have planted listener and other devices in the offices.
Matovu revealed that the armed security personnel raided and searched the office for about seven hours. After they had seemingly completed their search, they took Kabuleta's phone. It is reportedly the phone he used during last year’s presidential elections.
Matovu says they have not received any explanation from the police or the army as to the exact reason why their offices were turned upside down.
Matovu remained tightlipped as to the whereabouts of Kabuleta.
Stinging criticism
Kabuleta has been travelling around the country accusing members of the first family and its cronies of being behind the spate of land grabbing. He said that even the ranches left behind by the Obote regime are being gobbled up in this veritable feeding frenzy.
He explained that there are a lot of land-related injustices taking place, adding that he and his cohorts have instructed their regional coordinators to document all public land.
“Natural resources are being taken over by the rich and powerful people and eventually rule over the poor, that is what is happening. This regime is going to end; I can assure you that. There will be justice,” he stated.
Kabuleta claimed that this cabal, led by the first family, have had a 50-year master plan to rule Uganda and ensure that some Ugandans are more equal than others since 1992.
However, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango declined to comment on the matter of why security forces consider Kabuleta a person of interest.
