The deceased boda boda rider has been identified as John Bosco Lomuria, a resident of Napao village, Poron Parish, Poron sub-county in Napak district.
'Karimojong warriors' shoot dead boda boda rider just 3kms from Museveni's residence
Suspected Karimojong warriors have shot dead a boda boda rider in Napak district despite heavy military deployment due to President Yoweri Museveni's presence in the area.
Boda boda riders are commercial bike riders who provide a popular means of transportation in Uganda.
Lomuria died of his gun shot wounds on Monday morning at Nawaikorot village in Ngoleriet sub-county, just 3 kilometers away from Morulinga State Lodge where Museveni is meeting with Karimojong leaders to thrash out ways to put paid to the insecurity in the region.
Micheal Longole, the Karamoja Regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying police is currently investigating the crime with a prime eye on quickly apprehending those behind the killing.
The police spokesperson says that the deceased had gone to Ngoleriet sub-county to visit his girlfriend identified only as Kevin Look.
"Police visited the scene and a canine dog was introduced to the scene leading to the arrest of 4 suspects including those who were residing in the same hut with the deceased," he said.
He said the police officers also recovered 3 cartridges.
"We are yet to establish the motive of the murder," he said.
The deceased's body is lying at Matany hospital pending a postmortem to lead to clues to determine who is behind this murder.
"The presence of President Museveni in Karamoja should yield results because we are losing people every day," he added.
The nine districts of Karamoja, a semi-arid northeastern borderland, were beneficiaries of relative peace after the government’s disarmament of cattle rustlers in the early 2000s.
However, in recent years, this situation has been overturned as hundreds of people have been killed and their cattle stolen.
