The Open Mic Festival puts on electrifying performances in Gulu
The Open Mic Festival rocked Gulu city over the weekend at the Acholi Inn Hotel Gardens.
The festival is a central stage bringing local artists, poets, bands and brands together in celebration of self-expression.
The performance line-up was dominated by Gulu acts: Quincy, Destiney, Adong, Philipiano, Jo-Town, Opio Twongweno, Judas Rap Knowledge, Chameroon, Pato Loverboy and MC Wang Jok. Deejays included: DJ Unique Emma (Gulu), DJ Black (Arua) DJ Richie (Gulu), DJ Dranix and DJ Alisha.
Comedian Patrick Salvado Idiringi hosted the event, while Kenyan-based Ugandan singer Apio Moro entertained the crowd with exotic trance sounds from her catalog of soulful music. She recently released an EP titled "Winjan" in collaboration with Desmon Bosire and Afamefuna.
Different brands set up lounge areas all over the Gardens to interact with attendees.
By 12pm Saturday June 4, revelers from Kampala, Gulu and surrounding areas where arriving to turn up in the intoxicating atmosphere of green air-sweeping branches that surround the Acholi Gardens inside a cocoon of green landscape, drinks and fellow creatives.
The day progressed with a riveting roster of performers from non-stop music to live band, a mini fashion show, poetry and finally DJ Alisha took the stage to deliver a memorable turntable performance to wind the party down.
Thereafter, pictures of the festival flooded the internet alongside glowing descriptions of the event applauding the organisers with requests to have another soon.
