Top 10 songs birthed in the pandemic

The pandemic has been full of mysteries to many sectors especially the entertainment industry. The two years 2020 and 2021 have been years of so many difficulties but the most highlight is the entertainment and music industry still being under total lock down with no music shows, performances and tours.

Azawi

Much as the music industry has been locked for two years, there are those musicians that have tried hard to make it up to their fans by releasing hit songs that were all over playlists and media airwaves topping charts. Most of these songs are memorable, full of vibes and have raised the bar high for the artists profiles, social media platforms and rate cards. Here is the list of ten songs that have made it big during the two-year lock down.

Slow Dancing - Azawi

Without a doubt, this jam had to be number one on the list of the songs that have taken many Uganda’s through covid times. From its day of release, Slow Dancing was massively received by many Ugandans from the way it’s been requested on different media platforms and topping charts all over. It’s a song about dancing with laid back sounds that Ugandans didn’t realise they needed until they listened to it.

Slow Dancing captured so many people’s imaginations and it's proof that Swangz Avenue is doing something right with their youngest and latest signee. Slow dancing is off Azawi’s debut album “African Music” that she released this year.

Tupaate - Pia Pounds

Pia Pounds has been on top of her game with amazing sounds and songs like Wakikuba. This jam, Tupaate, has been topping charts and has been a weekend party anthem almost everywhere. Though the song comes off from the beats of Wakikuba, its vibe and vocals were massively received by crowds. Ugandans are known to be the center of partying and when you sing about it, it’s a win and hit.Eddy Kenzo’s introduction on the song together with Mc Africa’s video challenge and his happening on the remix successfully pushed the song to number one most music streaming charts.

Magazine - Zex Bilangi Langi

When you listen to his song lyrics and the way Zex performs it, you get the picture of an artist having a good time through his songs. The song Magazine talks about a very beautiful girl that he only dreamt of and only saw in magazines. The song’s opening lines are catchy phrases that won massive reception and airplay.

Weekend - Eddy Kenzo

Eddy Kenzo’s song Weekend stands out from his previously released songs because of its vibes and sounds. It is the type of song that justifies that Eddy Kenzo is a real musician. The song talks about partying on a weekend with great sounds and simple lyrics.

Simplicity and uniqueness have always been part of Kenzo’s winning formula. Like Tweyagale, Weekend is one of those songs with simple lyrics mixed in both Luganda and English. Kenzo reminds party animals in the song that indeed it’s time to hit the dance-floor since it’s a Weekend.

Sango - Martha Mukisa Ft Kenzo

The song has been a massive banger everywhere because of its lyrical strength and the beats that happen to be Martha's vocals and Eddy Kenzo’s. The dance moves in the song also adds another advantage to the song and Eddy Kenzo did an impressive collabo with the new comer. They worked well together and gave the song justice reason it topped charts and received massive airplay.

The pair infuse dancehall elements on an Afropop beat to spread good vibrations encouraging their listeners to enjoy their life no matter the circumstances they are going through. The video showcases true Ugandan culture from fashion, dance and perfectly expressing the vibes felt from the song.

Balance - Karole Kasita

When she dropped this song, little did she know that it would hit hard and top charts because the country was in the middle of the pandemic. Her dancehall style and lyrical maturity made the song outstanding and became a hit. She also did a remix with Ziza Bafana and queen of the dancehall like she calls herself-Bella and it was also a viral song.

Balance is an urban feel-good song that's meant for party animals and wild revellers, with a vibe that has had all females sharing videos challenges twerking on the song.

Body - Spice Diana Ft Nince Henry

The way this song trended; one might think it’s the reason she was mad that she didn’t win any award from the Janzi awards as the female artiste of the year. Collaborating with Nince Henry on this song got her excellent melody because he is a songwriter as well as a wonderful vocalist. Spice sang well on this track and the instrumentation is well executed with flamenco guitars intro with a touch of Zouk.

In the song, Nince Henry and Spice Diana really do give off the same vibe and the song really opens her up to a completely new market she explores the rnb genre with ease.

Boy Fire - Sheebah ft Selector Jeff

This seems to be one of the Sheebaholics’ best songs released during the pandemic. The song is mastered with everything that would bring out Sheebah’s attitude and diva status, from the beats and lyrics. The song brings a deceptively simplistic feel. Boy Fire is a track that proves that Sheebah can make a hit out of anything.

Boy fire also brings out the usual hint of Sheebah’s naughtiness, as backed by the song’s video, and as captured by the song’s lyrics. If you are looking for the type of song that captures love and party life, Boy Fire is the song.

Muyayu - Mudra

Muyayu up to now is still a hit banger and also topping charts on media countdowns.

Obangaina - Ykee Benda

Other people when they try out doing a remix, they try to bring on a different version to it but Ykee Benda didn’t add on this song, he sticks to the original version. As many people thought he would add more lyrics to the song, he just changed a few key words from the original version. Because it’s a classic song, the song did well and got massive airplay.
