5 Weird facts every upcoming musician should know
You are probably going to die young, become famous after you're dead, be liked more than your music, record most of your songs in weird places or rely on your intuition more than music education.
A study titled "Stairway to Hell: Life and Death in the Pop Music Industry" a profess, conducted at the University of Sydney, examined the deaths of artists which took place between 1950 and June 2014. The study focused on longevity, proportion of suicides, homicides, and accidental deaths.
The average life span was determined by calculating the average age of death for each musician by sex and era of their death. The results showed that musicians have lifespans that are shorter by 25 years.
Mozart sold more CDs than Beyoncé in 2016
The 18th-century composer sold more than Adele, Drake and Queen Bee combined yet they were Grammy winners for hit songs that year.
This is attributed to the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of his death in October that year. The Universal Music Group released a box set of his music and each box set had 200 discs. Plus the accretion of streaming which has affected CD sales, there was no competition. Only 12 are currently still on the shelves.
Some people feel nothing toward music
According to a study conducted by the University of Barcelona, 5% of participants did not exhibit any emotion (goosebumps or foot tapping). However, these subjects experienced pleasure from food, sex, and did not show up on the psychological problems radar. Happy and healthy with no care for music.
An Astronaut recorded an album in space
Chris Hadfield released his first album in 2015 and all the songs were recorded while he was orbiting in space. He was the first Canadian to walk in space and a gifted musician whose cover of Space Oddity went viral. He spent all the 144 days at the International Space Station recording the album Space Sessions: Songs for a Tin Can. It has 11 songs.
The Beatles didn't know how to read or write music
Band member of one of the greatest bands of all time, Paul McCartney, admitted to the band's ineptitude to read or write music. They simply never understood music. He revealed this during a one minute interview in 2018.
He said that all the music just came to him and his mates; John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. They never wrote it down.
