Weasel-Teta saga: Here is what the celebrities say

A number of celebrities have voiced their opinions on the domestic violence scandal between singer Weasel Manizo and his wife, Sandra Teta.

While the saga is still polarising, most observers seem to be rooting for punishment of Weasel who is currently on the run, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman Luke Owoyesigire.

Celebrities who have interacted with the couple or sourced information from friends weighed in on the matter and below we look at their comments.

Former Miss Uganda Oliver Nakakande said she had seen the "pictures [of battered Teta] in the media and her current appearance is spine-chilling."

"You can't tell it's the same person when you compare the pictures of before and after she was beaten... if it's her husband who beat her, we condemn the act. I'm personally not surprised because about 68% of women are abused by their husbands. It's just that they don't speak out," said Nakakande, who runs an organisation that empowers teenage mothers.

Nina Roz attributed the violence to drug abuse on the part of Weasel.

"They are telling me not to speak up... but it's not about Teta, it's about women at large... Enough is enough... if it wasn't for drugs, this wouldn't have happened. It's the bitter truth," she said.

"Personally I had started disliking Weasel because of Teta."

Cindy Sanyu didn't want to pass judgment before all the facts come to light, citing a social media post shared on Teta's Facebook indicating she had been attacked by thugs, not her husband.

"With loved ones, you can't just pass judgment. Before I get a statement from Weasel's wife herself, I suggest we wait for her to speak for herself... But if it's true that it's happening, I condemn it as a woman... it's wrong to beat your wife... Otherwise, let's wait for Teta to speak," she said.

Some people have said the post could have been shared by Weasel and this relates to the account given Muma Guetto, the wife of singer Buchaman, who said at some point Teta wanted a divorce but when they (Teta and Guetto) went to file a complaint at police, she changed her mind after a call with her in-laws.

Comedian Patrick Salvado opened a can of worms when he said feminists were silent on the matter.

"Hmmmm all these wololo 'Feminists' on social media have gone quiet 🤫 at this Sandra and Weasel situation .. [sic] you only bark when it benefits you, it’s never been about girl power .. [sic] you selfish works of Satan 🤮," he tweed.

TV personality Sheila Gashumba shared similar sentiments, though she took aim at women in the arts industry: "It’s embarrassing that women in [the] industry are very quiet!! A big shame".

Replying to Gashumba's tweet above, MC Kats said Weasel needs help.

"Was so quiet about this. But been thru [sic] a similar road. We need to get [Weasel Manizo] help asap. This will go out of hand as we sit back [and] watch."

TV personality Andrew Kyamagero wants Weasel imprisoned.

"When the abuser is exposed, they will try to control how others perceive you and the whole situation. But that doesn't change the fact that they are violent," he said. "[Weasel] must face the laws of the land. Being talented gives him no right to abuse his baby mama."

Daniella Atim, who is Weasel's in-law, has been the most vocal about the issue, rolling out a series of Instagram posts condemning her husband, Jose Chameleone and Weasel on how they have handled the issue.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joseph Rutabana, has said the commission is following the case and they have already liaised with Sandra Teta and her parents.
