Sheebah Karungi: Why Winnie Nwagi and I are rebellious

Musician Sheebah Karungi is convinced that some people deserve the right to live life on their own terms, especially if rising to the top was by the skin of their teeth.

Karungi, who is known for her daring personality as seen through her dress code, music style, and public statements – believes she falls under that group, as well as her fellow songstress Winnie Nwagi.

She is also of the opinion that the world is drawn to such people, citing an example of Nwagi holding the most attended concert in recent history, coming on the back of a series of controversial incidents.

"I like people who are straightforward and frank. And I know Ugandans like people like that. So, when you see people, sometimes they are not fake, but being true to yourself is not for everyone. Women who are tough that they don't wait for approval," Karungi told journalists who had come for an event where she was screening dancers ahead of her upcoming concert.

"I know what bothers you most about Winnie [Nwagi], she doesn't like being boxed in. And that's what disturbs you about me. You want to control our lives, but we have refused. Winnie and I have refused, why? We've come from where we've come, we've done what we've done, [so you have to let us] live our lives because we are old people."

Her concert will be held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on December 9.

Karungi put up a thrilling performance at Nwagi's concert, but she also got tongues wagging with her top that left little to the imagination about the appearance of her breasts.

Journalists wanted to know if she'll do the same at Serena.

"I don't want to say much about what to expect at Serena. You'll see what's gonna happen to Serena," Karungi said.

"About my tits and my boobs, Please, let's accept that there are people with beautiful breasts, so I'm one of them. I have very beautiful boobs, and I'm 32 years and I'll be turning 33 in November, so I know that I know what I'm doing. Don't do it if you don't like it."

In interviews, Winnie Nwagi has also been unapologetic about her lifestyle, saying her boldness has inspired other women to come out of their shells and avoid being boxed in by societal programming.
