The payment is called “restitution” in legal terms, which means “full or partial compensation for loss paid by a criminal to a victim that is ordered as part of a criminal sentence or as a condition of probation.”
R. Kelly to pay over $300,000 for herpes, psychological treatment of two victims
Musician Robert Kelly, popularly known as R. Kelly, has been ordered to pay over $309,000 to "Jane" and "Stephanie," who testified against him at his Brooklyn trial, to cover the two women’s psychological and herpes treatment.

Dual payments
“Jane,” who took the stand as “Jane Doe #6” during the trial, will receive $300,000 from Kelly for therapy and herpes treatment.
“Jane”, during her testimony, accused Kelly of knowingly giving her herpes.
“I felt this man had purposely given me something he knew he had…. He was agitated and said I could have gotten that from anyone,” “Jane” said.
She claims that Kelly was only person she had sex with at the time, but she was denied additional restitution for lost income.
On the other hand, “Stephanie,” the other victim who testified against Kelly at the same trial, will receive about $8,000. This figure is likely to increase, however, as the costs of herpes and psychological treatment are likely to go up.
No Restitution
U.S. District Judge Ann M. Donnelly denied restitution for “Sonja,” who also testified against Kelly at the same trial.
“Sonja” claims to have been trapped in Kelly’s Chicago studio for four days, which resulted in her being allegedly sexually assaulted.
Kelly’s current woes add to previous ones in which $27,828 was seized from his inmate commissary account earlier in the month. The seized money was set aside for the restitution for his victims.
Kelly, who is looking at 30 years in jail, will next be sentenced on Feb. 23, 2023, after a mixed verdict in the Chicago federal child pornography case against him.
