Abtex return to court, requests that Freedom City owner be arrested

Findings reveal that more than 500 revelers were attending the concert at the time of the stampede which happened after the MC reportedly asked the packed crowd to move out of witness the fireworks display at the parking yard.

On January 4^th, Abtex was remanded to Luzira after appearing before Grade One magistrate Igga Adiru, until January 10^th.

Today, Abtex has returned to court in company of high-profile figures in entertainment and beyond.

The music promoter has been arraigned in court alongside Elvis Francis Jjuuko, who was the MC, on the fateful night of the stampede.

Both Abtex and Elvis have been brought to the Chief Magistrates Court in Makindye for plea taking and bail application.

Some of the high-profile personalities present at court included Kyengera Town Council Mayor Mathias Walukagga and Abtex’s lawyer, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

In videos that have since circulated on social media, prison warders lead Abtex to court, a procession in which Abtex comments, noting that he is innocent.

While entering court, Abtex questions why businessman and Freedom City owner, John Ssebalamu has also not been arraigned in court.

According to Abtex, Ssebalamu should be held responsible for the stampede that happened.

Erias Lukwago, his lawyer agrees with his client’s stand.

According to the Lord Mayor, Abtex and Elvis have been charged with negligence, however, it is unfair because there were other parties involved including the Police, the owner of the venue and the team in charge of fireworks.

Abtex faces nine charges of “Rush and Negligent” act that led to the death of people contrary to Section 227 of the Penal Code Act.
