Jay-Z's company, SC Liquor, wants complete financial disclosure from Bacardi when it comes to D'Usse, which is a top-drawer cognac brand in which Jay and Bacardi are 50/50 partners.
Music mogul Shawn Corey Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, wants to know just how much money his D'Ussé VSOP Cognac drink is making and so he has filed a lawsuit against his partners at Bacardi to get that information.
The joint venture estimated to be worth $100 million. This type of cognac is unique in that it is reportedly used as a cocktail ingredient.
Jay-Z and Bacardi have co-owned D’Ussé since 2011.
D’Ussé is made at the Chateau du Cognac and a subsidiary of Bacardi. D’Ussé produces just two cognacs: D’USSÉ VSOP and D’USSÉ Xo. D’Ussé Vsop is aged at least four and a half years in the Château de Cognac cellars.
D'USSÉ Cognac was founded by Sovereign Brands and conceived by the senior-most cellar master working today, Michel Casavecchia. Sovereign Brands still owns 1/3 of the brand. D'usse is manufactured at the Chateau du Cognac. This 200-year-old venue — one of the oldest Cognac houses in France — is where Casavecchia created D'USSÉ.
Jay often waxes lyrical about the brand in his songs, and he even drank it from one of his Grammys by way of promotion once. However, the lawsuit states the joint venture between Bacardi and Jay-Z, officially named D'Usse LLC, has hit rocky ground.
The court documents state that Jay-Z needs all books and records, the location of all warehouses storing D'Usse barrels, bottles and accessories, this should be furnished along with Bacardi's physical inventory and its inventory process.
Jay-Z's SC Liquor says it needs to "monitor the conduct of [Bacardi's] business to protect SC's rights as" a partner in the company.
