My ministry is committed to fostering a holistic approach to education that prepares students for success in the ever-changing world.

We have taken steps to support insurance education across the country by including insurance courses in the national curriculum. This is to ensure that students are imparted with knowledge and skills to understand insurance, working closely with industry stakeholders.”

Mrs Museveni’s message was delivered by the State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo at the 2nd Annual Secondary School Insurance Contest 2024, held at Nabisunsa Girls SS in Banda.

The day-long contest saw Mbogo Mixed Secondary School crowned as this year’s champions, beating 38 other schools which took part in the contest.

In the fiercely fought race, Bank Hill College were the runners-up, followed by St. Kizito High School in third.

The student contestants from the top three schools took home cash and other material prizes as well as certificates.

More so, the finalists won themselves scholarships from ITC, while Minister Muyingo also offered scholarships to the best female contestants.

I enjoyed every single moment of this contest. I saw Ugandans who are going to be problem solvers,” remarked Minister Muyingo.

According to Mr Saul Seremba, the ITC Principal, this year’s contest saw a big jump in the number of participating schools, from 28 to 38.

The contest, he said, was designed to demystify insurance in Uganda, starting from the younger generation.

We have realised that in order for us to build trust in insurance we must start with the young generation so that they grow up understanding what it is. We believe that when they become decision-makers, they will have a soft spot for insurance,” Seremba said.

“Initially we would go to schools and ask students what they wanted to be in the future and no one ever mentioned insurance as a career option. This is slowly changing.

Seremba said in next year’s contest they hope to bring in more schools including those from outside Kampala and Wakiso..

On her part, Hajjat Zulaika Nabukeera the Nabisunsa head teacher commended ITC for the initiative.
