Lukwago says he left Nairobi Hospital only with painkillers and returned home to consult about the operation.
Why Lukwago left Nairobi without neck surgery
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago took the decision last week to defer his spinal surgery after consulting with medics.

Last week he appeared at the Eid al Fitr prayers at Kibuli and later, and later on at the funeral of FDC stalwart Sarah Eperu. He was wearing a cervical collar to secure his neck.
Speaking at the service held at the FDC Katonga Faction offices, Lukwago said despite being in severe pain, he decided not to undergo the surgery until after consulting with other health experts.
The mayor admitted feeling scared after the doctors explained to him how the operation would go.
“The way they explained it to me, it was so scary so I thought I should first go back home and reflect on it. Right now I am undergoing that process of counselling myself. I have also received a lot of advice from experts including Dr (Kizza Besigye)."
Lukwago is suffering a swollen cervical disc which is pressing down on his nerve and causing him numbness and excruciating pain at the back and left arm.
Lukwago needs an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion procedure in which the swollen disc will be removed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots.
This will be replaced with a bone graft, fastened with a metal plate to bridge the area.
Currently, Lukwago says he’s surviving on strong-paid killers.
