Could it be love? Beatrice Kayanja attends Norbert Mao's swearing-in

In December last year, Martin Kayanja, when being divorced by his wife Beatrice, accused Norbert Mao of calling his wife late in the night at ungodly hours and now Beatrice was with Mao as he was sworn in as Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister yesterday. This has left many wondering what is going on.

Kayanja, the estranged husband of Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao’s research assistant Beatrice has accused Mao of being something of a third wheel in his marriage by misleading his wife. Especially, he claims, when Mao used to call in late in the night.

“I told her to tell him to call at reasonable hours and not those designated for the family, in vain,” Mr. Kayanja said in response to a divorce petition filed by his wife, Beatrice, at the Family Court in Makindye last year.

In the throes of love, Martin Kayanja married Beatrice in 2004 after she separated from the father of her first three children, court documents indicated.

As a result of Mao’s reportedly persistent calls at ungodly hours, Kayanja sent a voice message to the DP stalwart telling him off and asking him to stop calling his wife at such mischievous hours.

However, Mao did not seem to get the memo and kept on calling, claimed Mr. Kayanja.

He adds that his wife’s position as Mao’s then research assistant was nothing but a convenient cover for her extramarital relationship with the DP boss.

Kayanja claims his wife is inexperienced in politics and so cannot hack it in political research. Thus, implying that Mao requires her for something outside her official designation.

Again, Kayanja claims his wife escorted Mao to critical DP meetings despite not being a member of any party organ.

He cited the launch of the DP manifesto ahead of the 2021 presidential elections as one such meeting.

In her court petition, however, Beatrice wanted her marriage to Martin Kayanja dissolved on grounds that it is anything but a marriage.

The respondent (Kayanja) has been very quarrelsome and disrespectful to me and has on several occasions belittled me before my children and the public and has uncontrolled anger and enjoys fighting,” Beatrice stated.

High Court Judge Ketra Katunguka is presiding over the Kayanjas divorce case as people wonder who Beatrice will end up with when she is finally a divorcee.
