Nyungu-ya-Mawe is a forest park themed on relaxation and leisure

Nyungu-ya-Mawe is a forest park complete with woodland lodges and luxury woodland cabins which boast high eco-friendly credentials and exclusivity.

Where nature meets leisure

It is found in Bulindo, which is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) north of the headquarters of Kira Town Council, Kampala.

Mr. Bernard Mujuni, the owner of Nyungu-ya-Mawe, says he built this park to serve as a perfect location for a getaway and a get-together.

Whether you are looking for a casual dining experience, a family gathering or retreat, you will find the perfect experience here,” he says.

Set on over 100 acres, the forest park has cabins or lodges which have balconies where you one may enjoy mild evenings or breakfast each morning while watching the soft-glow of sunrise.

The lodges themselves are things of beauty in their own right, pretty much wood throughout –sustainable Ugandan pine – so very eco-friendly, which are ideal bases for both interacting with the nature outside or snuggling close with a loved one when the weather is poor.

The temperature here is an ambient breeze which freights the flower-perfumed air into the mystic chords of bird-song.

There’s a babbling brook snaking its way through the forest as a gentle splash can be heard nearby.

The water is clear, the atmospherics fresh.

The slope in the forest leads one to an amphitheater which could seat 500 persons and is fashioned out of the rocky bed, like in medieval times.

Mujuni says this amphitheater serves as the staging ground for dramatic poetry recitals and performance arts offerings involving music, comedy among others.

Nyungu-ya-Mawe borrows its name from a charismatic war-leader among the Nyamwezi of West Central Tanzania who created new hegemonies over the smaller, traditional units from 1871-1884.
