Sunday inspiration: Kevin Hart's bible

Love him or loathe him, Kevin Hart is one of the greatest comedians in history.

Kevin Hart

The diminutive man, he stands at 5 feet 2 inches tall, has built a towering celebrity portfolio and a muscular comedy empire.

His work ethic knows no bounds and it is reflected in his numerous movie appearances, stand-up tours and constant willingness to extend the horizons of his acting abilities.

His grind, as he likes to call it, is relentless.

"I honestly have never seen a guy with this much energy and drive," says Hart's manager of 16 years, Dave Becky, whose client roster also includes Louis CK, Amy Poehler, and Aziz Ansari.

"When Kevin got too big for clubs, he said let's do theaters, let's do arenas, let's do stadiums, let's do outer space."

Hart, worth $200 million, is on his way to becoming the first billion-dollar standup comedian, Jerry Seinfeld being shy of that mark by $50 million dollars as his net worth is $950 million.

Hart’s “What Now?” standup comedy tour went around the globe and brought in more than $100 million. Hart was the first comedian to sell out a National Football League field, selling over 50,000 tickets at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

However, Hart has not always walked a primrose path. At the start of his comedic career, he was penniless.

Yes, as in flat broke.

Kevin Hart’s mother was going to help him with rent to kick-start his comedy career, but when the due date passed he called his mom, and all she could say was: “Have you been reading your Bible?”

A week later it was the same thing: “When you read your bible, then we’ll talk about your rent.”

Annoyed at his “over-religious” mom but desperate about an eviction note on his door, Kevin grudgingly sat down and opened the Good Book.

“I go home and say, ‘Man, let me open this Bible up,'” Hart explained.

“Opening the Bible up, six rent checks fell out. She put all my rent checks in the Bible."

Sometimes what we need is right in front of us; it’s just not in the package we were expecting.

This means we should never stop looking until we find what we have inside us, whether it's inside of the Bible or within the very depths of our beings, it is always right in front of us.

All we need to do is see it in order to see to it that our dreams become realities.
