Reports from the survey indicated that hygiene and maintaining a hygiene routine is important when trying to attract partners but also to boost self esteem.

And considering that grooming habits score high on the list of qualities that attract love, it is essential to adopt them into your living spaces.

Of the 500 participants, 20 percent of them said that they would rather have a partner who maintains a clean bathroom than being a good kisser.

One in eight participants reported preferring someone who keeps a clean toilet over someone with great sexual chemistry.

Two thirds of the participants claimed that if they found out a prospective significant other had a dirty bathroom, it would make them back out of dating them.

However, the same study found that the British do not hold themselves to their own hygiene standards that they expect from others.

Two in three men from the group said they do not dispose of their nails after cutting them while 66 percent of women said they neglect their mess after shaving in the bathroom.

Two in five men said they wash their genitals every day, but more men shower daily more than women.

Lastly, one in 20 couples admitted to using the same toothbrush or razor, despite only 29 percent of the men replacing toothbrushes every three to four months as recommended by dentists. 48 percent of women replace toothbrushes within the same period.
