Is Koshens Planning a Uganda Concert?

Jamaican Dancehall artiste Garfield Delano Spence aka Konshens could be planning a concert in Uganda, following a video tease released Tuesday morning in a tweet sent to over 412000 followers.

In the video, Koshens, who last performed in Uganda seven years ago at Lugogo Cricket Oval, shows a passport, a flying plane and highlights from his previous tours in Uganda.

The 'Do Sumn' singer has performed in the East African nation thrice -- in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

In his last concert he performed alongside Jamaican dancehall reggae artist Reanno Devon Gordon alias Busy Signal.

During that period reggae, dancehall music had become impressively popular in Africa, with songs of stars like Pop Caan, Mavado, Gyptian and Vybz Kartel garnering remarkable club and airplay.

The competition has since grown with Afrobeats edging out most genres, especially in the club environment and radio stations where a significant number of people learn about new music.

Nigerian artistes like Chike, Fire Boy, Adekunle Gold aka AG, Ayra Starr, Tiwa Savage have already held successful concerts in Uganda.

Kizz Daniel is set to perform at Lugogo Cricket Oval on August 6.

But this doesn't mean Jamaican music has no fans. Just a few days ago a fake poster of Pop Caan's upcoming concert in Kampala created a lot of buzz.

Events host MalembeLife, which has pulled off a series of successful concerts in Kampala, has announced a concert on September 9. Since it hasn’t revealed who will be performing, people have been suggesting some Jamaican artistes.

If Koshens comes to Uganda, it will be his second show in East Africa this year, following his outstanding performance in Nairobi as Kenyans celebrated the new year.

Jamaican artistes that have been in Ugandan before include Chaka Demus and the Pliers, Third World, Papa San, Maxi Priest, Buju Banton, Shaba Ranks, Shaggy, Brick & Lace.

Other sare Beenie Man, Morgan Heritage, Elephant Man, Sean Kingston, Alaine, Tarrus Riley and Chronnix.
