Where there's smoke, there's fire. The smoke is usually Bebe Cool, and the fire is often "<em>the bitter truth</em>" according to fellow artist Eddy Kenzo.

The name Bebe Cool stands for a history of music entertainment in Uganda for the past 20 years. It also triggers mixed reactions in the public. He has been at the centre or tail-end of controversies among celebrities and his fans. But according to those who have choked through the 'smoke' of his personality and got close to him, he is quite the lovely person.

Unfortunately, Gravity Omutujju allegedly got off the wrong foot with Bebe Cool back when the former was just starting out in his career. Over time, their relationship has soured but not gone bad. Time and again, they find themselves stirring up the media with their feud.

"Bebe Cool found me at some bar and pulled away the microphone. I was singing Walumbe Zaaya. And he said, me I'm leaving, that one of Walumbe... do you want Walumbe or Big Size... People wanted Big Size. He was hot. He took away the microphone from me... And I was like, will I progress?... I let him sing and I later sang, with some eight people left in the audience. I had just joined the music industry... He used to call me Walumbe [Luganda for death]," Omutujju said in a video seen by this reporter.

"Make your cakes, romance your man, but leave industry issues alone. You know nothing about them. Just because you tried singing [mimics her singing her song titled Owa Boda] and failed. So, madam, us who have been able to sing well-received music, and your husband tried to elbow out one of them, don't judge. Don't come out to say that he wishes well for others, he only wishes well for you, when you are in bed together," Omutujju said.

“... It's also good for you to think you are better than me. The competition is good. But remove words/gossip from it, especially remove women... What annoyed me most are the people who involve women. I have to pass this warning, that if any musician involves my wife in music industry things, I'll beat you. I've said this publically. You involve my woman who is at home sleeping with children…” said Cool in an old video seen by this reporter.

"I sang a song with Bebe Cool called Kere Kere. He sidelined it until we gave up. Everything disappeared," Omutujju said of the incident.

"Bebe Cool is like me. We share the same audience. Bebe Cool is a local artiste like me... He may be an international artiste in his thinking, even you as a friend, you may say he is international. I'm not despising him, it's the truth."

“I intentionally refused to call Bebe Cool, I didn't even bother him; I left him because… you may announce him as a performer and people refuse to come."

Gravity remarks about Bebe Cool

"To be honest, I'm not Bebe Cool's fan, but I know his music, like Kaseepiki, Wire Wire, which other one, the one he sang from a desert, Love You Everyday."

While appearing on STV’s 100 Degrees "Bebe Cool doesn't understand. I don't even understand his music."

"We didn't build the cage, it was built by the audience. The audience says leave those three men alone... until you are at their level. We haven't elevated ourselves to this level. It's Ugandans that have put us there. Ugandans whose attention we are competing for and singing for are the ones [who built the cage]. If you want to remove Bebe Cool from his position, produce good music for Ugandans, project a respectable demeanour, show discipline, dress well, bathe, be respectful, and then they will respect you. The audience will respect you and put you where Bobi Wine and Chameleone are," Bebe Cool said.

"The industry was in the hands of Jamaicans and Congolese, but it's now in hands of Ugandans. I hear people saying that if you keep dissing Bebe Cool you'll get the attention. But you may only get it for three months, and struggle for the next 30 years. So, focus on what the audience expects you to deliver."

He added: "We are musicians. We are parents. We have kids to support. Wives to dress. We have water and electricity bills. So, when you tell us to leave the music industry, do you have an office you want us to go to and work and feed our children?"

"Bebe Cool is not my friend. He is just an old man, like any other old men that we meet on the way. He doesn't listen. He is proud."
