Singer Jose Chamelone received a heroic welcome on Saturday morning on his return home from the United States, where he’s been undergoing treatment.

Hundreds of people crammed the Arrivals wing of Entebbe International Airport to welcome the artist.

The crowd included his die-hard fans as well as family members led by the singer’s parents, Gerald and Prossy Mayanja.

Also present at the airport were a number of artists, including his brother Pallaso.

Amid a heavy downpour, airport security found difficulty in containing the ecstatic crowd, with many trying to force their way to the VIP Lounge where the singer exited.

On leaving the lounge, Chameleone declined to drive off and instead opted to walk down to the Arrivals wing, where he joined the waiting mammoth crowd.

There, he embraced his family members, who performed traditional rituals on him before proceeding for a vehicle procession out of the airport.

A long stay in the US

Since the start of the year, Chameleone has been in the US receiving treatment for a gastrointestinal complication.

He reportedly suffered pancreatitis and underwent surgery in February.

In the US, he travelled with his friend Juliet Zawedde, who partly facilitated his travel and also hosted her at her Massachusetts home, as well as his brother Douglas Mayanja aka Weasel Manizo.

His three-month stay in the US was mostly enjoyable as he often shared light moments enjoying luxurious experiences, including shopping sprees.

It, however, had its downside as it soured his relations with his son Abba Marcus Mayanja, who took to social media to accuse him of being the “worst father in history.”

Marcus was apparently upset by his father’s failure to communicate with his children and ex-wife about his ailment and treatment in the US.

The long trip also appeared to stress Chameleone’s brother, Weasel, who in March, snapped and attacked Zawedd,e demanding to be flown back home to be with his family.
