Azawi heartbroken as celebrity idol turns into mafia

“It’s heartbreaking seeing someone you used to look up to turn into a Mafia, someone who was relentless on issues concerning people become the apologist of the oppressor," she posted on X, adding that the said idol is now setting up people adding voices to bad deeds in government for arrest.

Azawi didn't name the celebrity, but when the comedian Emeka, also known as The Romantic Mukiga, said, "Imagine you had him on your album," she responded, "We may disagree on certain things with him, but he’s still my superstar! 😂😂"

They have a duet titled Nkuchekele on her album titled African Music.

Eddy Kenzo and Azawi have had differing views on protests against corruption in government.

In a recent interview, Kenzo told her, "As people age, they tend to speak less, influenced by their experiences. Where Azawi is now, we've been before. We know a lot she hasn't yet seen, given our time in the industry. Do I seem like someone who supports corruption?"

The "Byansi" hitmaker also implied that Azawi might be using the anti-grant campaign for a larger agenda, as some artists have done in the past—either quitting music for politics or using such initiatives to attract supporters for future shows.

Eddy Kenzo expressed that he cannot support demonstrations, especially violent ones, considering his knowledge of Uganda.
